About us
The Battle of the Badges Indy hosts an annual charity hockey game that originally had benefitted the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We were founded in 2021 by the current Commissioner James Taylor. James had participated in several of the 911 Slugfest boxing events and found them to be great entertainment for those involved in public safety. He decided to apply the same concept to a sport that he loves. Hockey, in general, has a rich history but is not as popular within Indiana as its counterparts. That is something we are looking to change
The two teams that compete are made up of public safety officials involved in law enforcement, emergency medical services, and fire/life safety. Currently, there are over 15 public safety agencies represented. We are always looking to add players to the roster and volunteers to help during the game. We have teamed up with members of the Indy Fuel administration in preparation for the games and enjoy the working relationship. We are looking forward to expanding the game, and the love of hockey within central Indiana.
Every year, we try to alternate sides and find first responders in need. Not only will they benefit from this amazing opportunity, but their families will as well. We enjoy bringing first responders together in an act of comradery. But it doesn’t just stop there, as we love to involve the community into our lives as well. We hope not only to see you in our daily lives as we serve the community, but would love to see you at the rink cheering us on.
As our friends at Guardians hockey say, “Not all victories show up on the scoreboard’’
